British engines to supply LMP2 cars in FIA WEC, ELMS, Asian LMS

The FIA has announced their decision to select Repton based engine manufacturer Gibson Technology as the single engine supplier for LMP2 sportscar class from 2017 to 2020. Gibson will develop and manufacture a new 4.2 Litre V8 engine, supplying LMP2 teams in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the Le Mans 24 Hours, the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) and the Asian Le Mans Series (from 2019 onwards).

Gibson race engines have achieved enviable success in one make formulae over many years, most recently for the prestigious Formula Renault 3.5 Series. In the world of endurance racing the Gibson-Nissan developed VK45 engines have achieved great success with many WEC and ELMS LMP2 teams, with notable victories at the world famous Le Mans 24 Hours in recent years. This vast experience ensures that Gibson is well equipped to support many race series worldwide.

‘Gibson is extremely privileged to have been chosen as the engine manufacturer to the new LMP2 series and it is a testament to our workforce and the products they have produced over many years’, says John Manchester, Gibson Technology Operations Director. ‘Gibson has over 20 years experience supplying engines for single make racing series and we are confident that we can make a valuable contribution in helping, what is already a flourishing series, become an even more successful sportscar racing category.’
