Role Overview

The Engine Test Technician will support a wide range of practical engine testing and system development activities within a dynamometer test environment. The role involves hands-on work with engines, powertrain components, test facilities, and data, applying fundamental engineering principles to ensure testing is conducted safely, effectively, and in line with technical requirements and standards.

This position requires strong practical capability, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a development and production-focused environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

Engine Development

  • Support engine development activities involving prototype engines, systems, and components.
  • Prepare and contribute to test plans, test procedures, reports, and supporting documentation required for development programmes.
  • Assist with test planning, coordination, set-up, commissioning, and execution of engine development tests.
  • Ensure testing activities comply with internal procedures, industry standards, safety regulations, and client specifications.

 

Testing

  • Support the assembly, repair, and maintenance of engine and powertrain components, sensor systems, and associated hardware to ensure functionality, performance, pass-off, and robustness.
  • Assist with the investigation, testing, and analysis of components to assess design changes, improvements, or reported issues.
  • Support engine and dynamometer calibration activities as required.

 

Production Support

  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to transfer equipment to and from test facilities.
  • Provide technical support during fabrication, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of engine systems.
  • Support investigations relating to engineering, manufacturing, or quality concerns.

 

Project Collaboration

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams and internal departments, providing updates on task progress where required.
  • Contribute to project planning activities, including estimating time, materials, and costs for engine test-related tasks.

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve facility performance, reliability, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • Contribute to a learning culture and support the development of junior team members.
  • Assist with maintaining and improving departmental and company-wide processes and standards, including ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

 

Essential Skills for this Role

  • HND qualification in an engineering-related subject and/or a minimum of one year’s experience in a similar role.
  • Practical experience in build, test, and/or analysis activities, including use of PC-based software and toolchains.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering and test fundamentals, with hands-on experience in build and test processes.
  • Experience or knowledge of the design, development, build, and operation of mechanical, electro-mechanical, or thermal systems and associated test equipment.
  • Understanding of relevant industry standards and regulatory compliance requirements would be advantageous.
